Professional Summary

Specialty:

Soil Science and Agronomy

Research program:

My area of specialty and interest is soil fertility and plant nutrition. I am generally interested in understanding soil nutrient dynamics and agronomic strategies for optimizing fertilizer nutrient use and maintaining soil health. My focus is on fertilizer nutrient use efficiency in row crop production, specifically cotton and cereals. Through applied research, I would like to further gain insights into the behavior of nitrogen within the soil-plant system as well as production systems that enhance soil carbon.

Extension program:

My extension program provides needs-driven and research-based recommendations for sustainable improvement of soil nutrient use that impacts crop yield and income for producers in the Lower Rio Grande Valley specifically and South Texas generally. I use innovative and collaborative outreach education program initiatives to develop and recommend location-specific cropping systems and best management practices that increase soil carbon and improve the sustainability of soils in South Texas.
