Boost plant growth with a simple soil test

Whether you’re growing tomatoes, managing crops or striving for the perfect lawn, soil testing is key to success. A soil test identifies nutrient levels and soil fertility, ensuring your plants get exactly what they need to thrive. It is a small investment with potentially large returns. Soil testing is a fundamental step in successful plant growth, said Jake Mowrer, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences.

A moonshot scientist’s giant leap for plant-kind

Jess Atkin’s favorite planet is Earth. It always has been. No surprise there — after all, she spends her days nurturing plants, diving into oceans to clean up debris and caring for her horses at her home on a small patch of land outside of Bryan. Atkin’s second favorite thing in the universe? The moon. It’s the quiet, constant companion in the night sky that has long captivated her imagination. Atkin is researching how to grow chickpeas in lunar regolith, otherwise known as moondust.
