Scholarship established in memory of Allen Mengers
Allen Edward Mengers, son of Cheyenne and Gus Mengers, died Sunday, February 13, 2022. Allen, born September 1, 2020, packed much love and joy into his short life. His family enjoyed his mischievous grins, his mirthful giggles, and his stubborn determination.
Allen leaves a family who will deeply feel his loss. He is survived by his parents, Cheyenne and Gus Mengers of Mathis, Texas; his paternal grandparents, Roberta and Scott Mengers of Mathis, Texas; his maternal grandparents, Marcia and Gerald Bauer of Winnie, Texas; and his aunts and uncles, Chloe Mengers, Shelby Bauer, Colton Elkins, Kash Bauer, and Kimber Bauer. Allen will also be missed by his great-great-grandmother Mary Bauer, great-grandparents, RoseAnna and Edward Korenek, Christie Bauer, Margie Mengers, and Kay Whatley, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
While not yet full of words, Allen made it obvious the things he loved: letting his dogs out of the kennel, seeing his friends at daycare, and playing hide-n-seek. Allen ate with gusto and slept hard, and already, despite his tender age, was most assuredly not a morning person. Perhaps the quirkiest thing Allen relished was the theme song from M*A*S*H.
Services for Allen were held Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at Grace United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas, followed by a graveside service at Waldheim Cemetery in Tynan, Texas. Pallbearers are Conner Cross, Tyler Cross, Colton Elkins, Joseph Floerke, Caleb Korenek, and Dillon McVay.
In lieu of flowers, a scholarship in Allen’s name has been established in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences at Texas A&M. Donations should be directed to the Texas A&M Foundation and sent to the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, 2474 TAMU, College Station, Texas, 77843, notating Allen’s name.
Allen's dad, Gus, earned his Bachelor's degree in Plant and Environmental Soil Science from the department in 2014.
