Steps to Complete Before the Semester

Before you arrive in Aggieland, there are a few items you’ll want to complete to prepare for your semester as a new graduate student. If you have any questions, you can always reach out to your graduate program coordinator or faculty advisor for help.

Log in to Howdy Web Portal

Howdy is the all-in-one destination for your student information and university resources. Howdy provides helpful information about financial aid, housing, registration, payment deadlines and more. Check Howdy regularly for important announcements, news and event information.

Activate your Texas A&M Email Account

A Texas A&M email account is available for all students. Your email address will be your [email protected]. This email address will be used for all official school correspondence. It is important to activate this account and check it regularly.

Register for Graduate Student Orientation

The School of Graduate and Professional Studies hosts New Graduate Student Orientation at the beginning of every semester to welcome new graduate and professional students to the Aggie Family! It gives you chance to learn about the office, familiarize yourself with campus and its resources. Register at grad.tamu.edu.

Register for Grad Camp

Grad Camp helps students make the most of their time at Texas A&M University. Students will be connected with peers in their graduate community, student leaders on campus and connected with resources around campus. Students also learn all about the rich history, culture and traditions that make Aggieland such a special place to call home. Register for Grad Camp at gradcamp.tamu.edu.

Submit Appropriate Transcripts

You must submit transcripts from all colleges or universities attended (excluding community colleges). Transcripts may be uploaded for review via the respective application service; however, if you are admitted and intend to enroll, you must provide an official transcript directly to the Office of Admissions before you will be allowed to register for classes. Transcripts can be submitted through SPEEDE, eSCRIP-SAFE, PARCHMENT and National Student Clearinghouse. 
Note: You do not need to submit an official transcript from Texas A&M University, but you may be asked to upload one in the central application service (CAS). Visit the admissions website for information on submitting documents by mail instead.

Enroll in Teaching Assistant Training (if applicable)

TAI is required for all new incoming Ph.D. students and mandatory for all new funded Ph.D. and M.S. students that will be working with undergraduate students. This training offers valuable information on becoming a TA while at Texas A&M University. Visit the Center for Teaching Excellence for details on how to register.

International Student Requirements

Visit the International Student Services website to find useful information on what to do now that you have been admitted into Texas A&M University to help process your paperwork.

English Language Proficiency
All international graduate students whose native language is not English must fulfill an English proficiency requirement through either English Proficiency Verification or English Proficiency Certification. Visit the Graduate and Professional Studies website for more information on requirements and testing.

Department Requirements

All students are required to attend a department orientation. More information will be sent to each student prior to the beginning of the semester.
