Funding an Undergraduate Degree
The Department of Soil and Crop Sciences awards approximately $85,000 in scholarships annually to undergraduate students. This funding is made possible by donors and supporters of the department including former students, family and friends, former faculty and industry sponsors.
Incoming Freshman Scholarships
The department offers scholarships on a competitive basis to academically outstanding freshmen. Highly qualified incoming freshmen students may receive up to $4,000 per year for 4 years (a total of $16,000.) These scholarships are not part of the university common application process and require a separate application submitted directly to the department. Transfer Student Scholarships
The department offers scholarships on a competitive basis to academically outstanding transfer students. Highly qualified incoming transfer students may receive up to $4,000 per year for 2 years (a total of $8,000.)
Criteria
- Accepted as a transfer student in a major offered by the Department of Soil & Crop Sciences
- Minimum 3.2 GPA on at least 24 graded semester hours of transferable courses
- 12 credit hours in math, biology and chemistry
- MATH 140, 141, 142, 150, 151, 152
- BIOL 111 or 101
- CHEM 119 (formerly CHEM 101/111)
- Three letters of recommendation – 2 academic and 1 personal
- Maintain a 3.0 or better as a full time student at Texas A&M, College Station, in a major within the Department of Soil & Crop Sciences

Current Student Scholarships
Current students in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences at Texas A&M University with an overall GPA of 3.0 or above are eligible to apply for departmental scholarships using the University Scholarship application. The application portal typically opens in mid-October, and closes in late-January for scholarships awarded in the following academic year. The application process and deadline vary each year. Eligible students are notified each spring of the application requirements.
These scholarships are awarded on the basis of academics, departmental involvement, leadership, work experience, research experience, and an interview. Amounts range from $500-$5000 per year.
Funding a Graduate Degree
The Department of Soil and Crop Sciences supports graduate students through assistantships, fellowships, and travel and research grants.
Graduate Student Scholarships
The department offers a limited number of travel grants based on merit. They are open to students that participate in graduate student organization (SCSCGSO) and either present at the conference or participate as an officer of the organization at the event. Students must have a 3.0 GPA.
Graduate Student Fellowships
Graduate fellowships are awarded annually based on availability of funding and need. They are open to master’s and doctoral students in the study of wildlife ecology and management, fisheries ecology and management, aquaculture, biodiversity and systematics or related fields.
Graduate Student Research and Presentation Travel Award
The Graduate and Professional School’s Graduate Student Research and Presentation (RAP) Travel Award provides graduate students with educational and professional development opportunities through reimbursing up to $750 for travel expenses associated with academic conferences and research projects in the United States and abroad.

Non-Resident Tuition Waiver for Undergraduate and Graduate Students
Available for graduate or undergraduate students, The Competitive Scholarship waiver, authorized under Texas Education Code 54.213a, is an optional waiver that institutions can implement. An eligible non-resident student who holds a competitive academic scholarship of a specified minimum dollar amount for the academic year or summer for which the student is enrolled may be eligible to pay the fees and charges required of Texas residents without regard to the length of time the student has resided in Texas.
