Description
The Harris County Flood Control District is seeking talented candidates for the role of Turf Establishment Coordinator. The Turf Establishment Coordinator is responsible for coordinating contract and in-house turf management activities including establishment, mowing maintenance, herbicide applications, and pest and disease management for the Facilities Maintenance-Vegetation Management Department. Duties and Responsibilities: Direct and manage inspection staff, ensuring adopted contract specifications and operational procedures are followed. Develop manpower and resource needs for the management of vegetation on District properties. Manage the turf establishment and mowing programs to ensure District sites have fully established and desirable permanent vegetation. Develop follow-up plantings with an appropriate maintenance program. Review contracts and specifications to ensure up-to-date industry standards are used to maximize efficiency, reduce costs, and achieve successful results. Develop and maintain long-term maintenance records on each site to track progress of the program. Manage the in-house herbicide program and lead annual classes to introduce new products and equipment to staff. Direct vegetation maintenance operations to ensure conveyance issues are met while maintaining the environmental integrity of sites. Work with contract inspectors to assist with plant identification or other special needs associated with vegetation management activities. Prepare correspondence, complete forms, and maintain records and files. Perform other duties that can be added or changed as the course and scope of the job directs.
Qualifications
Requirements Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in agronomy, range management, horticulture, or a similar natural science field. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in vegetation management or a related field. Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience. Experience using geographic software such as ArcGIS. Licensure: Valid Texas Driver's License Valid Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) Herbicide license required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and/or assignments. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Ability to be self-motivated.  A self-starter. Excellent organizational skills. Good diagnostic and troubleshooting skills to solve usual work problems and advise on complex technical questions and/or difficult work solutions. Ability to work well and manage a team in a field environment.
