Description
Position Purpose & Summary The Research Agronomist, in collaboration with the Breeding Team based in Great Falls MT, works to design and implement a camelina research trial program to develop commercial camelina varieties and best agronomic practices. This position will be solely responsible for the western KS and eastern CO territory. The Research Agronomist assists with the planning and execution of a field breeding program, including off-site yield trials and nurseries, for breeding and agronomic protocols to improve camelina yields. The Research Agronomist is also responsible for assisting with yield trial data review and resource organization. Principal Accountabilities 60% - Manage field research trials including land selection and contracting, site development, as well as all aspects of agronomic trial management, including seeding, spraying, maintenance and harvest. Contributes to management plan. Translate research agronomy trials into improved camelina best management practices, providing greater returns for camelina growers. Supports the sales group as needed by troubleshooting commercial camelina fields when needed. Participates in grower meetings from time to time to provide educational presentations and research results. 30% - In collaboration with breeding team, initiate and execute successful field trial and nursery program to support Montana breeding plan. This requires participation in trial design, location selection, process improvement, and ongoing quality improvement. 10% - Effectively communicate performance knowledge of hybrid product line-up to Production Teams. This position will work remotely from western KS or eastern CO, with up to 25% overnight travel and extensive daily travel. Qualifications
Required Qualifications BSc in Agriculture or related degree in Biological Sciences Experience in a plant breeding program including small or field-scale plots and nursery research methods Demonstrated knowledge in crop production and seed production Demonstrated experience leading seasonal employees Knowledge with Microsoft Applications Strong organizational skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to attain CDL within 3 months of hire Preferred Qualifications 3+ years experience in a plant breeding program including small or field-scale plots and nursery research methods Demonstrated knowledge of research equipment use, repair and maintenance
