Scholarships

The Department of Soil & Crop Sciences awards approximately $85,000 annually in scholarships to current and incoming students. Departmental scholarships are not part of the university common application process and require a separate application submitted directly to the department.

INCOMING FRESHMEN

The department offers scholarships on a competitive basis to academically outstanding freshmen. Highly qualified incoming freshmen students may receive up to $4,000 per year for 4 years (a total of $16,000.)

Criteria

  • Academic excellence as evidenced by SAT/ACT scores and high school coursework
  • Accepted in a major offered by the Department of Soil & Crop Sciences
  • Completed freshman scholarship application
  • Three letters of recommendation – 2 academic and 1 personal
  • Maintain a 3.0 GPR at Texas A&M University, College Station
  • Maintain full time student status at Texas A&M University, College Station, in a major within the Department of Soil & Crop Sciences

 
Deadline to apply for freshman departmental scholarship is Jan. 1st

TRANSFER STUDENTS

The department offers scholarships on a competitive basis to academically outstanding transfer students. Highly qualified incoming transfer students may receive up to $4,000 per year for 2 years (a total of $8,000.)

Criteria

  • Accepted as a transfer student in a major offered by the Department of Soil & Crop Sciences
  • Minimum 3.2 GPA on at least 24 graded semester hours of transferable courses
  • 12 credit hours in math, biology and chemistry
    • MATH 140, 141, 142, 150, 151, 152
    • BIOL 111 or 101
    • CHEM 119 (formerly CHEM 101/111)
  • Three letters of recommendation – 2 academic and 1 personal
  • Maintain a 3.0 or better as a full time student at Texas A&M, College Station, in a major within the Department of Soil & Crop Sciences

Deadlines to apply for Transfer Departmental Scholarships:

Fall transfers:   March 15           Spring transfers:   October 15

CURRENT STUDENTS

Current students in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences at Texas A&M University with an overall GPA of 3.0 or above are eligible to apply for departmental scholarships. Applications are due in January of each year for scholarships for the following academic year. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of academics, departmental involvement, leadership, work experience, research experience, and an interview. Amounts range from $500-$5000 per year.

The application process and deadline vary each year. Eligible students are notified each spring of the application requirements.
