James L. HeilmanThe major emphasis of my research is the response of agricultural and natural ecosystems to environmental change. Specifically, I am interested in how ecosystem structure and climate affect production and sequestration of greenhouse gases, water use and productivity. I am the principal investigator for two AmeriFlux sites on the Freeman Ranch near San Marcos, TX that began operation in 2004. AmeriFlux is a network of meteorological tower sites that use eddy covariance methods to measure the exchanges of carbon dioxide, water vapor, and energy between regionally important ecosystems and the atmosphere.
